ICTP-NLAGA School in Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory

  • Place : Mbour-Senegal
  • Date : June 4, 2014 to June 14 2014
  • Directors :  Idris Assani (University of North Carolina, USA), Stefano Luzzatto (ICTP, Italy) Marcelo Viana (IMPA, Brazil).
  • Local organizers : Moussa Balde (Cheikh Anta Diop, Sénégal), Mouhamed Moustapha Fall (AIMS, Sénégal), Diaraf Seck (Cheikh Anta Diop, Sénégal)
  • DescriptionThe fields of Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory constitute very active areas of research with connections to many other areas of mathematics, such as topology, differential geometry, control theory, functional analysis and probability theory. They also have strong connections to several areas of mathematical physics and other disciplines such as biology and engineering. This school will be an introduction to some current topics in the modern theory of Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory, and is aimed primarily at students at the Master's level. Specific background in Dynamics or Ergodic Theory is preferred but not required, whereas a very strong general mathematical background and maturity is essential. The places at the school are very limited and the selection will be competitive.

Ecole CIMPA : Méthodes Algorithmiques et Applications en Géométrie Algébrique Réelle et Théorie des Nombres.

    • Lieu : AIMS- Sénégal, Mbour, Senegal
    • Date : 16 au 29 juin  2014
    • Directeurs :  Marie-Françoise ROY, IRMAR Rennes, France, Mamadou SANGHARE, AIMS-Senegal

Geometric and Arithmetic Aspects of Homogeneous Dynamics

  • Place :  Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (USA)
  • Date : January 19, 2015 to May 29, 2015.
  • OrganizersDimitry Kleinbock (Brandeis University), Elon Lindenstrauss (Hebrew University), Hee Oh (Yale University), Jean-François Quint (Université de Paris XIII (Paris-Nord)), Alireza Salehi Golsefidy (University of California, San Diego).
  • Description : Homogeneous dynamics is the study of asymptotic properties of the action of subgroups of Lie groups on their homogeneous spaces. This includes many classical examples of dynamical systems, such as linear Anosov diffeomorphisms of tori and geodesic flows on negatively curved manifolds. This topic is related to many branches of mathematics, in particular, number theory and geometry. Some directions to be explored in this program include: measure rigidity of multidimensional diagonal groups; effectivization, sparse equidistribution and sieving; random walks, stationary measures and stiff actions; ergodic theory of thin groups; measure classification in positive characteristic. It is a companion program to “Dynamics on moduli spaces of geometric structures”.
